Genetic Navigator Training Opportunity

 March 5, 7, 13, and 18 from noon to 1:30

  • Are you a family member, patient advocate, or social service provider who is confused about genetics and how it fits into healthcare?
  • Do you want to know some red flags that might indicate a possible genetic condition? Do you wish you knew how to help?

...Then consider this free online training in MARCH.

What is a genetic navigator?

A genetic navigator is not an expert in genetics. They are simply individuals familiar with the genetic "path" who have taken training to help guide others to find their way in the confusing genetic medical environment. Some work with family service organizations, some volunteer with patient organizations, and some healthcare organizations are starting to add genetic navigator services.

What is the training like?

The online training will be provided by Kristi Wees, a patient advocate and the program manager at Mountain States Genetic Regional Network, who provided similar training last May. It involves four fast-paced, interactive webinars that

  • introduces the role of navigator and provide basic genetic overview
  • explain how to support families and communicate genetic information
  • give tips about outreach to families and locating resources.

*The webinars will be recorded and made available to those who register.

Contact Karen Volle (Karen.Volle@unh.edu) for more information

Family members and patient advocates whose time is not otherwise compensated may receive $150 stipend to support their attendance. For more details email Karen Volle (Karen.Volle@unh.edu)
