Quality Improvement: Activities
The overall goal for the 2010 - 2011 year is to collaborate in order to facilitate access to genetic services, expertise and technology particularly for underserved populations and those in rural areas. Accomplishments The work group has established a registry for the sharing of de-identified data. These data will give the QI work group the ability to quantitatively study which treatments result in the best outcomes. Specifications for the database (registry) were developed, and efforts are underway to address legal privacy requirements. Each of the clinics has piloted and reported on their initial use of the data collection tool.
During the last year, a sub-group was formed: the Metabolic Clinics Quality Improvement Learning Collaborative. This Learning Collaborative brings together metabolic clinicians from New England and experts in the model of a Learning Collaborative process. This group will be developing and testing practice models for quality improvement in metabolic clinics. Going forward, their meetings will constitute a learning cycle of continuous clinical improvement activities. Current Work The genetics registry will be implemented for all new patients with developmental delays at the clinics of the work group members, with data reporting beginning this year.
The sub-group, the Learning Collaborative, will continue to develop and test a tracking tool for improving the delivery of health care in metabolic clinics.
